Each day - A new creation

I officated at a funeral for Rodger lthis morning.    A service that was full of music from the gospel song "He Touched Me" to a Johnny Cash song, "Let the Train Blow he Whistle: played and sung by a firend of Rodger.   A moving celebration.

I shared a reading by one of my favorite writers, Frederick Buechner.   He wrote:

"Using the same old materials of earth, air, fire and water, every twenty-four hours, God creates something new out of them.  If you think you are seeing the same show all over again, seven times a week, you’re crazy.   Every morning you wake up to something that in all eternity never was before and never will be again.   And the you that wakes up was never the same before and never will be the same again either.”

All too often we complain that it is the same old thing (more snow - more rain - more cold -same job - same place, same whatever) - and yet, as Buechner so rightly says, "you're crazy" if you think that way.   Each day is a new day.  Each day brings new blessings and new opportunities.

Rodger liked flowers - planted hundreds.    I've got some started in the basement and look forward to them growing.  I also love seeing the new growth on the tulips and lilies poking through the ground.   Spring is full of physical reminders that there is something new being created each day.

And not just one thing - but a whole new day.   Embrace this day that God has made.   Enjoy it - celebrate within it.   And give thanks.

Have a wonderfully blessed day.
